Globalization and Its Discontents

Globalization and Its Discontents - Joseph E. Stiglitz Stiglitz examines the roles of the IMF, World Bank and WTO in recent (the book was published in 2002, so not that recent!) economic crises around the world and the effect policies of these organisations had on the crises. He is particularly scathing of the IMF and its world-view driven by US Treasury doctrine and the Financial Institutions from which its representatives are drawn. An interesting insiders view on the problems caused by the dogmatic views of a few very powerful people.

This book does not address the wider problems of multi-national behemoths, or the impact of the constant drive towards economic growth; however limited to its scope it is certainly worth a read if you plan to go on a march outside the next WTO meeting!
